Bring On The Hot Dogs
Hey! You don’t want to miss participation in the BEST DAMNED TENNIS TOURNAMENT OF THE YEAR. Yes, it’s our own Irvine Winter Classic…coming the first two weekends of February. ITA members historically dominate the 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 doubles and mixed doubles draws at the Winter Classic. We have also competed well in singles. As a matter of fact, we have done well in all of these categories. Don’t be left out. Scan the ITA roster, give your favorite partner a call, and get it on.

Budgeting Tip
Here’s a suggestion for those of you who are economically strapped (and who isn’t these days?) All entry fees are waived for any ITA member who works one half day or more for the tournament committee. No special skills required. You can tote things, write things, monitor things, cook things, ,assemble things or just be tennis eye candy. ‘ Nothing to it. If you wish to take advantage of this can’t miss offer, telephone Tournament Director John Sustersic at (714)-838-7739 or email him at sustej@hotmail.com.

Turkey Shoot - Steve Song & Lori Greenman win big
Steve Song and Lori Greenman were the top winners at our annual Turkey Shoot, but a terrific catered lunch was the biggest hit. On November 22nd, 48 lucky I.T.A. players and guests patently traded shots through six rounds of random tandem mixed doubles in anticipation of lunch and awards. They were rewarded with a delicious, hot and generously portion thanksgiving feast.

Used Tennis Balls Wanted
Did you know the City of Irvine accepts used tennis balls and donates them to the Irvine Animal Shelter and the Irvine Unified School District? Used balls will enjoy a second life as dog toys or be used on chair legs in the school classrooms to reduce noise. You can give your used balls to Nan or Ray and we will deliver to the City (nandiesenng@sbcglobal.net) or you can deliver used balls directly to Steve Riggs in his office at the Bill Barber tennis facility.

Sundowners

ITA sponsors two teams in the women’s Sundowner Tennis League. This league plays on Monday evenings in Orange County from September through May. The association was started to give working women an opportunity to play league tennis. There are single and doubles matches for 3.0 to 5.0 level players. New players can be added to the roster in September and January. If you are interested in regular or substitute play, please contact Lori Greenman (714) 508-9353 for Moonlighters (3.0 – 4.0) or Karen Grams 949-457-0691 for Evening Stars (4.0 – 5.0).

Tuesday Night Men’s Doubles

16 men compete every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm at Heritage Park in round robin doubles matches. They have six week handicap competition with accolades awarded during a pizza and beer party after play. This is a popular activity and the 16 regular spots are usually filled. If you are interested in being added to the sub list, please call Charlie Niles at 949-454-1626.

Friday Night Mixed Doubles

On the second and last Friday of each month at Heritage Park at 7:00pm. Teams move through round robin playing 8 game no-add sets until we have played everyone or get tired. This is a social group that has enough courts to handle sixteen players. Call Trung Nguyen at 714-965-6729 if you interested in playing on Friday evening.

Sunday Afternoon

Four courts are reserved at Woodbridge High School courts from 2:00—5:00 every Sunday afternoon for the Irvine Tennis Association. Play is more informal but still very competitive. It is a good time for Ladder play. For more information contact Ray Ng at 949-651-0621.

Ladders

Currently a position is available for anyone wanting to run the ladders. If you are interested in organizing this event, contact Nan Diesen-Ng.
